The Ohio Student Education Association and the Ohio Education Association - Retired are looking for retired school employees interested in helping college students and entry year teachers.
In the report A Sense of Calling: Who Teaches and Why, 56% of more than 900 recent education graduates polled by the nonprofit organization Public Agenda said colleges spend too much time on education theory and do not focus enough on practical experience. More than 60% said their education schools did only a "fair" to "good" job readying them for the stresses of teaching.
Ohio Education Association-Retired members now have the opportunity to share their expertise and experiences with our future teachers through this mentoring program. We believe the program will improve the performance of prospective teachers, ease the transition into the profession, promote the importance of membership in the OEA, and ultimately assist with the retention of quality teachers in our state. Communication will be done primarily via e-mail.
