DUTIES OF THE PROSPECTIVE TEACHER
The prospective teacher is responsible with the retired teacher to make certain the communication is ongoing. Communication will be made through e-mail. The more often the contact, the greater the comfort level that will develop between prospective teacher and retired teacher. If you choose to communicate with a Retired Teacher (mentor) you must meet these responsibilities:
  1. initiate and maintain regular communication with a mentor
  2. must be open and honest about his/her needs
  3. must realize that mentors are providing alternative suggestions to the discussion; the prospective teacher (mentee) must selecct from suggestions he/she believes is the best suited for the situation
  4. must communicate his/her expectations, and
  5. must respect the effort the mentor is making to further his/her career.
Mentoring must be viewed as a partnership. Each party must feel free to contribute to the discussion. The partnership must be a relationship of equal sharing. A healthy relationship can develop not only into a successful sharing, but also a great friendship.
